Ground Rules

So in order to motivate me to complete my films I have set a few ground rules to keep me on track.
Rule 1: The term “film” will be used loosely in the context of this goal.
The term “film” in this context will mean any work that I produce.  This can mean anything from a 30 Second commercial to a full length feature film and anything in between.  As long as it tells a story and serves a purpose it will be counted as a film.  Let’s be real, most of these will be short films.
Rule 2: I have to have played a significant role in the creation of the film.
It would be difficult for me to come up with 30 ideas and direct and edit and produce 30 films over the next 2 years so I am giving myself a little leeway when it comes to these films.  I will count any film that I have played a significant role in creating be it writing, acting, directing, editing, or producing this allows me to work on several different roles in production and allows me to sharpen many skills.
Rule 3: Any film Counts.
In the course of school and work I have created and will continue to create a handful of short films and videos of varying length and quality, all of the films were created with the perfectly reasonable assumption that they will be the next big thing and will get me my big break (obviously that worked out according to plan).  Some films from work will not be able to be shown to the public so I will not be able to show them on my site but will give a brief description of the video.
Rule 4: Films may be broken up into multiple films if content permits.
I have in the works several documentary style films planned that may be better served as short episodes rather than one longer film.  If each episode tells a story and serves a purpose as mentioned before, they will each be counted as individual films.
Rule 5: Have Fun!
These are the rules that I have come up with while planning for my undertaking, but as are most rules, they are subject to change and may be added to or amended as necessary.  On a different note, the film making process can sometimes take a great deal of time so there may be long periods between posted films.  In order to keep readers coming back I am going to comment on other film and filmmaking topics. These topics may include top ten lists, movie reviews, and opinion pieces on current movie related news.
Grab the popcorn folks it’s time for our feature presentation. Lights….camera…action!

  1. Well you know you have to count Batman and Back to the Future toward the total movie count.

  2. Kase, I think this a great thing you're doing. Be reflective in all of your work, through this blog, and it will improve your skills tremendously! I only know this because of an internship I just completed. I was very reflective of my work and was able to see a transformation from the beginning to the end. I (and Bill too) look forward to seeing your films!
